San Jose Airport Terminal Slowly Reopening After Flooding
SAN JOSE (KCBS) — One security checkpoint lane in Mineta San Jose International Airport's Terminal A has reopened after a water main break partially shut down the terminal early Monday morning.
The checkpoint lane reopened at 8:50 a.m., and passengers are being screened there "on a limited basis," airport spokeswoman Rosemary Barnes said.
However, services for premium and first-class passengers will not be available in Terminal A until further notice, she said.
Flooding Damage Shuts Part Of SJ Airport
A hot water line broke in Terminal A around 2:15 a.m., sending a couple of inches of standing water in the "skybridge" area of the terminal, which connects the parking garage to the security area, Barnes said.
The emergency has resulted in some delayed flights and "a few" cancellations, Barnes said. Travelers are being advised to arrive at the airport two hours before their flight time, she said.
Barnes said passengers traveling on Alaska and Southwest airlines should proceed to Terminal B as usual.
Those flying American, ANA, Delta, Hawaiian, JetBlue, United, US Airways, Virgin America or Volaris should check in with their carriers at Terminal A if they are checking bags.
Those with only carry-on bags are advised to go to security checkpoints in Terminal B or the international arrivals building. Shuttle buses are being provided, Barnes said.
All arriving passengers will have to pick their luggage up in the baggage claim in Terminal B, Barnes said.
The cause of the water main break remains under investigation.
