Fleet Week Draws 1000s To San Francisco Waterfront
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS / AP) -- The San Francisco waterfront was packed with spectators Saturday as thousands of people turned out for Fleet Week.
The day's events started with Navy ships sailing under the Golden Gate Bridge around 11 a.m.
The USS Carl Vinson, the historic World War II Liberty Ship USS Jeremiah O'Brien and other ships took part.
During the afternoon, the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels team soared over the city, performing climbs, stunts and rolls. The Blue Angels have a second performance planned for Sunday.
With so many people coming into the city, transit officials are urging people to take mass transit.
Roads and freeways are expected to be especially busy Sunday with a San Francisco 49ers playing at home and a Italian Heritage Day parade in the city's North Beach neighborhood.
