Aerobatic Blue Angels Delight Hundreds Of Thousands - But Not SF Supervisor Avalos
SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX) -- If you were anywhere in San Francisco Saturday and didn't see the Blue Angels, you likely heard them. The U.S. Navy flight squadron dazzled spectators as part of the city's annual Fleet Week festivities.
Tens of thousands crowded the waterfront, at Crissy Field and along the Marina Green to watch the annual display of military air power maneuver high above the bay. Even downtown, any place with a view of blue peeking through the skyline offered exciting glimpses of the Navy's elite air team in action.
"Very beautiful," commented young Ben Fuentes, who was taking in the spectacle at Crissy Field.
"It's not something you see any day. It's just nice to see that and to see people away from their phones and technology," Fuentes added, as some rather impressive technology soared overhead.
Not everyone was thrilled. Representing some of the unimpressed, San Francisco supervisor John Avalos took to Twitter.
"Maybe the rain and the fog means no Blue Angels! ... #WishfulThinking," Avalos tweeted.
In response to a constituent, Avalos tweeted this: "U expect me to LIKE war planes buzzing SF w/feel good jingoism? Just the THOUGHT of a crash over the city should be enuf to shut it down."
