First Photograph Offers Glimpse Inside Wrecked Asiana Airlines Plane At SFO
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- The first image from inside the Asiana Airlines plane that crashed at San Francisco International Airport was released by federal investigators Sunday, showing the level of damage done.
Interior damage to the plane was extreme, National Transportation Safety Board chairwoman Deborah Hersman said.
The photo showed the wrecked interior cabin of the Boeing 777 which included collapsed seats slammed out of their rivets and oxygen masks dangling from the overhead compartments. It gave some indication of the terror that the 307 passengers and crew experienced as plane's botched landing killed two people and injured 180 others.
One passenger who was sitting at the back of the plane told the Associated Press that after the crash he saw that the galley and back bathroom had been torn away leaving a gaping hole in the rear of the plane. He said he exited to the tarmac through that opening.
