First Lady Visits Martinez Boy Injured In Boston Bombings
BOSTON (KPIX 5) - An 11-year-old Northern California boy injured in the Boston Marathon bombings was visited by the first lady Thursday as he recovers from injuries to his legs.
Aaron Hern was part of a group of family and friends from Martinez watching his mother finish the race when the explosions took place. On Thursday, Michelle Obama delivered a stuffed dog and a medal from President Obama as she visited him at Boston Children's Hospital. She was captured in a family photo chatting with Aaron, his sister Abby, and parents Alan and Katherine Hern.
Katherine Hern said in a Facebook posting on Thursday that Aaron may be able to leave the intensive care unit as soon as Friday.
He had successful surgery on Wednesday, and doctors were able to close all of his wounds without skin grafts.
But Katherine Hern said there are still concerns about infection and proper blood flow in repaired muscle tissue in his leg.
Also Thursday, the FBI released photos and video of two suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing and asked for the public's help in identifying them, zeroing in on the two men on surveillance-camera footage less than three days after the deadly attack.
