First Lady Obama Visits Bay Area For Fundraiser
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS / AP) -- Michelle Obama is coming to the Bay area to raise money for her husband's campaign and commission a new Coast Guard cutter.
The first lady is scheduled to speak Friday at a $500-a-ticket presidential campaign reception at the California Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park.
On Saturday, she is expected to head across the bay to Alameda to join the commissioning ceremony for the Coast Guard Cutter Stratton. It is named after the director of the Coast Guard Women's Reserve during World War II.
Mrs. Obama broke a bottle of champagne over the Stratton's bow in 2010 in Mississippi to christen the ship. Saturday's ceremony marks the formal introduction of the vessel to the Coast Guard's active fleet.
