Firefighters Suffer Burns, Smoke Inhalation In Sacramento House Fire
SACRAMENTO (CBS SF) -- Three firefighters were hurt in a house fire in South Sacramento early Monday morning.
A Sacramento Fire Department spokesman said two firefighters suffered burns and one suffered smoke inhalation and heat exhaustion. All three were hospitalized Monday.
The injured firefighters were identified as Capt. Gary Pimentel, firefighter Adam McKahan and probationary firefighter Alex Galang.
It was unclear which firefighters suffered the most severe injuries, but McKahan and Galang were believed to be the most seriously hurt as Pimental was the last to be transported.
The fire broke out at a home on the 5200 block of 22nd Ave in South Sacramento.
Fire department spokesman Roberto Padilla said firefighters responded to the fire at about 6:23 and a May Day call went out about 11 minutes later after two firefighters were trapped in the basement.
A man who said he owned the home told the Sacramento Bee his sister and her husband lived at the house but were away on vacation when the fire broke out. He called the house a complete loss.
There was no immediate word on what caused the fire.
