Field Poll Shows Tight Races For California's Lt. Governor and Attorney General
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The latest Field Polls suggest Gavin Newsom has slightly increased his lead over Abel Maldonado in the lieutenant governor's race and Kamala Harris is still trailing in the race for California attorney general.
The poll shows Gavin Newsom ahead of incumbent Lt. Governor Abel Maldonado by five points, while Kamala Harris trails Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. Steve Cooley, a Republican, in the attorney general's race by one point. Field pollster Mark DiCamillo said Newsom has one big thing in his favor.
KCBS' Barbara Taylor Reports:
"Newsom has definitely benefited by the fact that he's the best known candidate in the lieutenant governor's race. Even at this late stage, he's known to more voters than Maldonado," said DiCamillo.
But the poll also suggests high GOP voter interest in this election helps
Republicans like Maldonado and Cooley.
"This does look to be like a Republican-based turnout," DiCamillo added noting the GOP's advantage.
In the lieutenant governor's race, 14 percent of voters are still undecided and 19 percent haven't made up their minds in the Attorney General's race, enough to determine the outcome of both elections.
