Female Pittsburg Student Sexually Assaulted In College Restroom
PITTSBURG (CBS SF) -- A female student was assaulted Thursday night on the campus of Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, a spokesman for the Contra Costa Community College District said Friday.
The assault took place shortly after 9 p.m. in a women's bathroom of the Main College Complex building, spokesman Tim Leong said.
The victim does appear to have been physically hurt.
The suspect, who is being described as a white man in his 30s and about 6 feet tall, was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a bandana over his face.
Campus police are working with Pittsburg police to find the person responsible, Leong said.
Police searched the area around the building after the assault but did not find anyone.
Leong said the Main College Complex building has security cameras and police will be reviewing those. Campus officials also believe someone may have seen the suspect because he was dressed in an unusual way.
The campus remains open, Leong said, but campus officials are increasing the police presence on campus to help the community cope with the incident.
Counseling is available to any student who needs help and a crisis team is available to help the victim, Leong said.
A call to Pittsburg police on Friday was not immediately returned.
