Federal Government To Give Funds to UCSF For Kenya AIDS Program
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KCBS) - The federal government is giving UCSF $35 million to expand a care and treatment program for people with HIV and AIDS in Kenya.
Last year, KCBS reporter Doug Sovern profiled the project in a special documentary from Kenya. Now, Sovern reports that the CDC is awarding UC San Francisco's FACES program $7 million annually for five years, through President Obama's Emergency Plan for AIDS relief.
The grant will help to expand the program, which currently serves 60 sites, to upwards of 100 sites. Currently, the program helps 80,000 patients. This new grant will allow the program to double its patient load.
