Fate Of San Bruno Blast Donations Still Undecided

SAN BRUNO (AP) -- Nearly four months after a fatal gas pipeline explosion devastated San Bruno, residents are asking city leaders to immediately distribute the donations that flooded in after the disaster.

A San Bruno City Council subcommittee held its first meeting Wednesday to discuss what to do with the roughly $395,000 that's been donated. The funds are separate from money being given out by Pacific Gas & Electric Co. and insurance companies to replace property lost in the Sept. 9 blast, which killed eight people.

Most of the 100 attendees agreed the money should go to victims, but they didn't reach a specific plan. Suggestions include a memorial, a park and a scholarship fund.

Federal investigators are still looking into what caused the PG&E transmission line to rupture.
