Man Shot Dead At Richmond Apartment Complex; Gunman Sought
RICHMOND (CBS SF) - Police in Richmond were searching for a man they believe shot and killed another man at an apartment complex early Friday morning.
Police have identified Clarence Keith Bailey, 38, as the suspect in the killing of 51-year-old Stacey Marshall at the Pullman Point Apartments.
Bailey, who knew Marshall, apparently got into an argument with the victim before the killing, police said.
He remained at large as of 11 a.m. Friday.
Officers responded to multiple reports of shots fired at the complex in the 3200 block of Pullman Avenue a short time after 12:30 a.m., police said.
Police located Marshall suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
Believing that the suspect had barricaded himself in an apartment at the complex, officers evacuated the complex, police said.
Residents were escorted to a nearby community center while police and a SWAT team searched the apartment buildings for about an hour, according to police.
Police later learned that the suspect had fled the area and were able to identify Bailey as the alleged suspect based on witness accounts.
Investigators have not determined a motive for the slaying but said it does not appear to be gang-related. No other suspects are wanted in connection with the killing.
Bailey is believed to be armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call Richmond police Detective J. Ellis or Detective J. Wentz at (510) 621-1259.
A $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the suspect's arrest and conviction.
