Fatal Saratoga Crash Leads To DUI Arrest For Driver
SARATOGA (CBS SF) -- A San Jose man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of DUI after an accident claimed the life of a passenger in the car he was driving in a remote area west of Saratoga, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Edson Marin, 30, was driving a 2001 Volkswagen Golf at an excessive speed while heading north on Skyline Boulevard near Charcoal Road at about 7:35 p.m. Thursday, CHP officials said.
The car veered off the road, hit a tree on the passenger side and then fell down a 60-foot embankment before colliding with a fence, according to the CHP.
The passenger, whose name has not yet been released, suffered major injuries and died after he was taken to Santa Clara County Medical Center later that night, CHP officials said.
Marin sustained minor injuries and was treated at a hospital.
CHP investigators believe that alcohol or drug intoxication was a factor in the crash.
Marin was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI and driving with a suspended license, according to the CHP.
