Fatal Fight At Milpitas Sports Authority Store Not Gang-Related
MILPITAS (CBS SF) -- Milpitas police have identified the suspect arrested in a homicide at the Great Mall Friday morning as 26-year-old transient Nathaniel Manlangit.
Officers responded to a report of a fight involving a weapon at the Sports Authority located at 1200 Great Mall Drive at 10:49 a.m., police Sgt. Raj Maharaj said.
An officer arrived at the scene about a minute later and confronted a possible suspect, Manlangit, in the store and took him into custody without incident, Maharaj said.
The victim was found dead in the store, police said.
An investigation determined that Manlangit and the victim, a man, were acquaintances, Maharaj said.
The two got into an altercation in the store and Manlangit picked up a baseball bat from a store shelf, then struck him several times, police said.
Police do not believe the incident is gang-related, and that Manlangit is the only suspect in the slaying, police said.
Manlangit was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of murder.
Police continue to investigate.

The Sports Authority store was closed for business during the homicide investigation, but the rest of the Great Mall remained open, he said.
