Fatal Drive-By Shooting In Newark
NEWARK (CBS SF) -- Newark homicide detectives were investigating an early morning murder at the intersection of Thornton Avenue and Mullberry Street, causing traffic in the area to be diverted, according to police.
Police responded to reports of a drive-by shooting just after 4 a.m. Arriving officers found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
A 21-year-old Newark resident was shot three times in his upper legs and arm and later died at a local hospital, according to police. A 22-year-old Castro Valley resident suffered a gunshot wound to his thigh but is expected to survive, police said.
Drivers heading westbound on Thornton Avenue were being diverted at Cherry Street. Delays should be expected until after 9 a.m.
