Fatal Crash Closes San Jose Highway 101 Connector Ramp
SAN JOSE (BCN) - A ramp connecting southbound Interstate Highway 680 to southbound U.S. Highway 101 has re-opened following a fatal car collision Saturday morning in San Jose that closed the transition ramp for more than two hours, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
The CHP received a call at 1:17 a.m. initially reporting incorrectly that an accident took place on the connector ramp between Interstate Highway 280 and Highway 101, CHP Officer Ralph Caggiano said.
With the correct location obtained at 1:24 a.m., officers responded to the scene of the two-car collision and found one person had died of injuries sustained in the crash, Caggiano said.
It is unknown how many other people were possibly injured in the crash or what caused the collision, he said.
The crash blocked both lanes of the transition ramp, and a Sig-alert was issued at 1:38 a.m.
One of the vehicles overturned and leaked a small amount of fuel onto the roadway that was swiftly cleaned up by fire crews, Caggiano said.
The Sig-alert was cancelled at 4:30 a.m. when both lanes of the ramp re-opened.
