1 Dead, 3 Injured In Multiple Vehicle Crash On U.S. Highway 101 In Cloverdale

CLOVERDALE (CBS SF) -- One person was killed and three others were injured in collisions resulting from a vehicle rollover on U.S. Highway 101 north of state Highway 128 in Cloverdale in Sonoma County early Wednesday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.

Officers responded to the scene about 5:20 a.m. and determined three vehicles were involved.

Their investigation showed that the driver of a Kia Forte with two passengers going northbound on Highway 101 lost control and overturned after hitting the concrete center median, stopping in the middle of two northbound lanes.

A Kia Optima driven by Patrick Infante of Santa Rosa sideswiped the Forte. A Chrysler 200 driven by Canyon Sparks of Rohnert Park then hit the front of the Forte, officials said.

"At this time, we believe the driver of the Forte was attempting to exit his vehicle when the second collision occurred with the Chrysler. The driver of the Forte was ejected and sustained fatal injuries," officials said in a statement.

The passengers in the Forte were hospitalized with moderate to major injuries. Infante was not injured, while Sparks was hospitalized with moderate injuries.

The name of the dead driver is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or events leading up to it is asked to call the Santa Rosa CHP Office at (707) 588-1400.
