SUV Driver Killed In Crash With Big Rig On Highway 880 In Fremont
FREMONT (CBS SF) -- A female SUV driver was killed in a crash on southbound Interstate Highway 880 in Fremont early Tuesday morning, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
The crash, which involved the SUV and a big-rig, was reported at 4:52 a.m. just south of Stevenson Boulevard, CHP Officer Ron Simmons said.
A Sig-alert was issued at 5:10 a.m. and all southbound lanes were closed. The lanes gradually reopened, and the alert was canceled at 6:47 a.m., according to the CHP.
The victim, who was alone in the SUV, was pronounced dead at the scene, Simmons said.
The truck driver was not injured in the crash, he said.
The identity of the deceased was being withheld until their next of kin had been notified.
The cause of the collision remained under investigation, according to the CHP.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area and expect residual delays throughout the morning.
