Baby Stillborn At Daly City Hospital Ends Up At Laundry Facility
DALY CITY (CBS SF) -- A Bay Area family, devastated by the stillborn birth of their daughter, are now suing over a stunning mistake by the hospital following the infant death.
The Arriaza family of Daly City were preparing for the funeral when Seton Medical Center officials informed them the infant's body had been misplaced.
After a nurse wrapped the baby in a sheet, the body was not taken to the morgue, and instead was accidentally thrown in with the laundry.
According to the lawsuit, Seton ships its laundry off-site, 70-miles away to Santa Cruz.
It was at that facility that the baby's body was found on a conveyor belt, headed into an industrial-sized washing machine.
Seton Hospital spokeswoman Mary Coady said that due to the pending lawsuit, she couldn't comment, but sent her condolences to the family.
"They're very much in our thoughts and prayers," Coady said.
