Family Members Shot, 1 Killed In Richmond Home Invasion
RICHMOND (CBS SF) - Police are questioning a person of interest in connection with what appears to be a burglary in Richmond early Friday morning that turned violent, leaving an elderly woman dead and a man in critical condition, a police detective said.
San Pablo police have also detained a second person who was captured near the scene after a brief foot chase, but police still don't know if he was involved in the incident, Richmond police Detective Nicole Abetkov said.
Police received calls shortly before 4 a.m. reporting gunshots and screaming coming from a house in the 3200 block of Moran Avenue, which is in a normally quiet and peaceful neighborhood in the northern part of the city, Abetkov said.
When officers arrived, they found an elderly woman who had been fatally shot and a middle-aged man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
KCBS' Holly Quan Reports:
The man was taken to a hospital where he remained in critical condition as of Friday morning.
A total of five people, including two elementary school-aged children, were in the home when the shooting happened.
Investigators Friday morning were still trying to determine how many suspects were involved and whether the incident was a home invasion robbery or a burglary that was interrupted, but so far they have no information about a possible motive for the crime, Abetkov said.
"So far it looks like it was just a random act," she said.
"There's no indication that they were specifically targeted."
