Families Welcomed Back To San Bruno Neighborhood After Blast
SAN BRUNO (CBS / AP) -- Families returning to a San Bruno neighborhood destroyed by the 2010 gas pipeline explosion got an official welcome home.
The San Mateo County Times reports that two of 38 families who lost homes in the explosion have moved back, and that 26 others are in various stages of rebuilding.
City officials on Monday marked the occasion with a 6:30 p.m. ceremony and greeted the returning families.
Eight people died on Sept. 9, 2010 when a fireball fueled by a ruptured Pacific Gas & Electric Co. pipeline consumed homes.
Teddy Bernardo's family was the first to move back, and he said seeing the others return has helped bring the silent neighborhood back to life.

Still, his 8-year-old daughter is afraid to sleep alone in her new bedroom because it overlooks the spot where the pipe exploded.
