Fairfield Man Jailed After Allegedly Choking Mother, Evading SWAT
FAIRFIELD (CBS SF) - Fairfield police have arrested a man suspected of assaulting his mother and pointing a gun at her head Wednesday night.
Michael Austin, 39, was arrested without incident at a local hospital at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Lt. Greg Hurlbut said.
He was booked into Solano County Jail on charges of assault with intent to commit great bodily injury, elder abuse and terrorist threats, Hurlbut said.
Police responded to the 3900 block of Doral Drive at around 8:20 p.m. on reports that a man had choked his 75-year-old mother until she nearly lost consciousness and had aimed a gun at her head.
The woman had fled to a neighbor's house to call police.
Surrounding homes were evacuated as a precaution, and the
department's SWAT team was deployed along with a crisis negotiation team, police said.
Search and arrest warrants were issued around midnight. The SWAT team tried to make contact with Austin for several hours before entering the home, police said.
Austin was not found in the home or during a search of the surrounding area.
Police have not yet said how he ended up at the hospital.
