Fairfield Dog Victim Recovering; Animals Euthanized
FAIRFIELD (BCN) - One of two Fairfield women who were attacked by dogs Friday morning is in fair condition at a Vallejo hospital Tuesday.
Janelle Dalson, 52, is recovering at Kaiser Permanente, Vallejo Medical Center, hospital spokesman Jim Caroompas said Tuesday morning.
Dalson was jogging in the 600 block of Pavilion Drive around 6 a.m. when she was attacked by three dogs: a bullmastiff, a pit bull/bullmastiff mix and an American bulldog, police said.
Neighbors heard her screams and called police at 6:05 a.m., but took matters into their own hands before authorities arrived.
One neighbor, in an attempt to save the woman's life, shot the bullmastiff, causing the dog to release its grip on the woman.
The other two dogs then ran down the street toward two other women jogging nearby. One of the joggers, a 34-year-old woman, tripped as she fled.
As the dogs began to attack the fallen woman, a second neighbor shot at both animals, striking them each in the leg, police said.
That woman suffered moderate injuries and was treated at NorthBay Medical Center and released.
Officers with Humane Animal Services in Vacaville rounded up the dogs and contacted the owner of the bullmastiff and pit bull mix, who agreed to have both dogs euthanized, police said.
The man told the officers that the third dog belonged to his son.
The bullmastiff was the first dog to be put down, and the pit bull mix and the American bulldog were euthanized on Sunday, Humane Animal Services Officer Emily Duran said.
