Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg & Priscilla Chan Opening Private, Tuition-Free School In East Palo Alto
EAST PALO ALTO (CBS SF) -- Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan are opening a private school in East Palo Alto for disadvantaged kids.
The couple, who's expecting a baby girl soon, did not say how much money they're donating.
Chan is a pediatrician at San Francisco General Hospital and a former teacher. She will serve as CEO.
"Our mission is to foster each child's well-being as a foundation for academic and life success by drawing on the strengths of the child's entire community including family, educators, medical and mental health providers," reads the school's mission statement.
The tuition-free school is expected to open in August 2016.
Zuckberg and Chan put $120 Million into Startup: Education last year geared toward bettering Bay Area public schools.
