Facebook Working On 'Dislike' Button
PALO ALTO (CBS SF) -- A longtime request of many Facebook users is finally in the works: a thumbs down "dislike" button.
In a CNBC interview Tuesday, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed the social media site has been working on the feature for some time.
It would allow users to mark posts with something besides "like" as way of expressing empathy, particularly for sad moments shared by friends.
Zuckerberg said he is keen on differentiating this tool apart from Reddit, which currently uses a system of up and downvotes to raise popular content higher.
"That doesn't seem like the kind of community that we want to create," Zuckerberg said. "You don't want to go through the process of sharing some moment that was important to you in your day and have someone 'downvote' it."
But it may be a while before users will be able to click the dislike button. The 31-year-old CEO said the system is "surprisingly complicated" to create.
