Facebook Milestone: 1 Billion People Used Social Network In One Day
MENLO PARK (CBS SF) -- Despite the adoption by younger demographics of other social media networks, Facebook usage is showing no sign of tapering off in 2015,
CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced Thursday that for the first time ever, one billion people used Facebook in a single day - one in seven people on Earth.
On his own Facebook page, Zuckerberg said in a post the milestone reached on Monday was "just the beginning of connecting the whole world."
The company is in the process of developing solar-powered drones to bring Internet access to five billion people around the planet.
In the previous quarter, Facebook reported it had 1.49 billion monthly active users, up 13 percent from the previous year - while the daily active users for the quarter were 968 million, up 17 percent annually.
Meanwhile, mobile-only monthly active users in the previous quarter were up a whopping 64 percent from the previous year.
While teenagers have diversified their social media choices with Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter and others networks, Facebook is still the most popular and frequently used social media network among teenagers 13-17, according to Pew Research Center.
