Facebook Unveils Friend-To-Friend Payments In Messages
MENLO PARK (CBS SF) -- Facebook is taking a seat at the wireless payment table by now allowing users to send money to one another with its Messenger app.
Facebook announced Tuesday the free new payment system works with debit cards and is available on Apple and mobile devices running Google's Android and on desktops.
To send money, Messenger users tap the "$" icon located next to the photos and stickers button. Then, enter the amount you want to send and tap "pay" to enter your debit card.
Once your debit card has been entered, you can create a pin code to easily send money the next time. Or you can use your fingerprint if you have an Apple device with Touch ID.
In a blog post Tuesday, Facebook noted it already handles more than a million payment transactions on its site every day for advertisers and game players.
Facebook will likely expand the new service internationally after it becomes available to U.S. users over the next couple of months.
