VTA Resumes Light-Rail Service After Downtown San Jose Fire
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority has resumed normal light-rail service in downtown San Jose after a fire was reported in a building near the tracks, fire and transit officials said.
Firefighters responded to a report of a fire at a structure near North Second and East Santa Clara streets around 9:50 a.m., a fire dispatcher said.
Smoke was coming out of an electrical outlet in the fourth floor of an office building in the first block of North Second Street, a dispatcher said.
Firefighters reached the scene to find the blaze was already out and cleared the scene by at about 10:20 a.m., the dispatcher said.
No injuries were reported.
The fire disrupted service on VTA's Winchester to Mountain View and Santa Teresa to Alum Rock routes, transit agency spokeswoman Brandi Childress said.
Light-rail service has returned to its regular and substitute bus service that was provided for passengers was canceled, VTA officials said in a service notice shortly before noon.
