Exotic Iguanas Smuggled Into U.S. On Display At Oakland Zoo
OAKLAND (KCBS) -- A pair of exotic iguanas that were illegally smuggled into the United States have made their debut at the Oakland Zoo.
The 'casque headed' iguanas - native to Mexico and Central America' - arrived at the zoo in dire condition less than a year ago.
They were part of a larger shipment consisting of sixty illegally trafficked wild animals smuggled into the U-S and confiscated by the U-S Fish and Wildlife Service.
The surviving animals in that shipment have been transferred to different zoos.
The Oakland Zoo will be keeping its iguana pair on permanent display at its Reptile and Amphibian Discovery Room.
