Exacto Blade, Sewing Needle Found In Halloween Candies In Sonoma
SONOMA (CBS SF) -- The Sonoma Police Department is investigating two separate incidents of children finding metal objects inserted in candy bars after trick-or-treating in the city, the department confirmed Tuesday.
12-year-old Ottavio Gravatt and a group of friends were examining their haul at the end of the night when one of the friends discovered the slender metal blade in a Butterfinger candy bar, his father told KPIX 5.
"Immediately that put a scare in the whole table, and nobody wanted to touch their candy," Ottavio's father Frank Gravatt said.
Police said the candy was given to the child in the northwest area of Sonoma, and it appeared to be an isolated incident.
The Sonoma Police Department said it was investigating that incident, as well as another in which a student found a sewing needle in a Snickers bar.
"A kid brought a piece of candy to school with him today, and while he was eating it, he bit into a Snickers bar, and it had a small sewing needle in it," Spencer Crum of the Sonoma Police Department said.
Police reminded parents to thoroughly examine their children's candy, and to report anything suspicious.
Police do not believe the two incidents were related, because the children were trick-or-treating in separate areas.
