Ex-Stanford Swimmer Accused Of Raping Unconscious Woman Testifies
PALO ALTO (CBS SF) -- Prosecutors painted an extremely unflattering portrait of the former Stanford University swimmer accused of raping a woman on campus over a year ago.
Despite his boyish looks, prosecutors described Brock Turner as the "quintessential face of campus sexual assault."
Turner, 20, is accused of attempted sexual assault as well as the penetration of a woman who was either unconscious or too drunk to consent to sex.
Jury deliberations in Turner's trial are scheduled to begin Tuesday morning.
The alleged incident happened after a night of hard partying and heavy drinking at a campus fraternity party.
Turner admitted to sexually fondling the woman after consuming nine alcoholic drinks at an on-campus fraternity party on January 18, 2015, but denied raping her, according to a report from the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office.
Police and prosecutors say the victim had three times the legal limit of alcohol in her system when the alleged assault occurred - that she was blackout drunk and unable to agree to sex. Turner's blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit.
Turner took the stand in his own defense and said he could walk and talk normally. He testified that the young woman agreed to go back to his dorm room.
He claims she was a willing participant in the admittedly drunk and sloppy sexual encounter that happened in the bushes outside the fraternity party.
Turner's fate will be in the hands of a jury who will have to decide if this was a drunken college hook up or something far darker and ultimately criminal.
If he is convicted, he would face a maximum of 10 years in prison.
