Ex-San Francisco Sheriff's Deputy Gets Prison For Insurance Fraud
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A federal judge sentenced a former San Francisco sheriff's deputy to 14 months in prison for fraud after she lied about her department-issued firearm being stolen.
The San Francisco Examiner reported Thursday that 55-year-old April Myres was sentenced Tuesday after a trial last summer in which prosecutors argued that she filed a $67,000 insurance claim to hide her "corrupt conduct."

Myers told the insurance company the gun and other items were stolen from her home during a burglary. Prosecutors said the weapon was actually in the possession of her ex-boyfriend, a former county jail inmate with whom she had a relationship.
Myres' defense attorneys described her in court records as a hard-working single mother who made a poor choice to enter a relationship that "triggered the nightmarish chain of events."
