Ethics Panel To Meet In San Francisco Sheriff Mirkarimi Case
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) -- A San Francisco ethics commission was scheduled to meet again in the misconduct case against embattled sheriff Ross Mirkarimi who was suspended after he was charged with domestic violence.
The five-member panel will likely discuss Tuesday at City Hall exactly how the hearing process will work, including the length of the hearing and whether to allow live witnesses or only written testimony.
Mirkarimi pleaded guilty in March to one count of misdemeanor false imprisonment after being accused of bruising the arm of his wife, Venezuelan actress Eliana Lopez during an argument on New Years' Eve.
Mayor Ed Lee suspended Mirkarimi without pay. Mirkarimi has vowed to fight for his job.
The commission will eventually issue a recommendation to San Francisco's Board of Supervisors as it will take nine votes from the 11-member board to permanently remove Mirkarimi from office.
