Equipment Failure Knocks Out Power In SF Richmond District
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - An underground equipment failure knocked out power to more than 1,600 PG&E customers in San Francisco's Richmond District Tuesday morning, a utility spokesman said.
The outage was reported at about 8:45 a.m. at Geary Boulevard and 30th Avenue and initially affected 1,627 customers, PG&E spokesman Joe Molica said.
Power was restored to 1,050 of the customers by 9:05 a.m., but 579 remained affected as of about 9:30 a.m., Molica said.
An email from "Alert SF," an incident notification system run by the city, stated that there was a vault fire, but Molica said that was not the case.
"There is no fire," he said. "When electrical equipment fails, it may create a puff of smoke, but there's no fire."
Molica said there was no estimate yet for when the remaining customers would have their power back, and said crews are still trying to determine the exact cause of the outage.
