Environmental Group Sues Gov't Over Pesticide Poisonings
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Environmentalists are accusing the federal government of failing to prevent the pesticide poisonings of California condors and more than 200 other endangered and threatened species.
The suit was filed Thursday in San Francisco federal court against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The Center for Biological Diversity and the Pesticide Action Network North America says EPA officials consistently ignore obligations to consult with the Fish and Wildlife Service to determine whether pesticides considered for registration were harming species or their habitat.
Center for Biological Diversity spokesman Jeff Miller said that failure to act prevented anything from being done about widespread pesticide contamination of groundwater, drinking water and wildlife habitats nationwide.
