Emergency Contractor Takes On Huge Lafayette Sinkhole
LAFAYETTE (KCBS) — A giant sinkhole in Lafayette may be repaired by Christmas Day as a contractor known for quick emergency repairs has stepped in.
The City of Lafayette has hired C.C. Myers for the repair work on Mountain View Drive. The 80 feet long, 40 feet wide and 15 feet deep hole formed after the drainage system was overwhelmed by heavy rain earlier this month.
If all goes as planned, the collapsed section of roadway would be fixed several months sooner than expected. Lafayette City Manager Steven Falk said the city council did not want to wait several months to have the problem fixed.

"Our first instinct was to hire C.C. Myers. They're California's leader in emergency response. They fixed 20 projects on an emergency basis," he said.
One of those emergencies included the MacArthur Maze where a section collapsed after a fiery big rig accident in 2007.
Falk said to get the job done C.C. Myers crews will be working 24/7. He added that residents had already been notified.
"It's better to get this project done and over within the next 10 days rather than have a gaping hole and crews out there for the next 10 months," Falk said.
The estimated cost of the project tops off at $600,000. According to Falk, the only person who has been inconvenienced by the sinkhole is the new mayor, who cannot get into his driveway.
