SOUTH ELGIN, Ill. (CBS/AP) -- A Sonoma County man has admitted shipping himself 82 pounds of marijuana, according to authorities.
Seventy-year-old Walter Kwiatek of Cloverdale pleaded guilty Monday to possession of more than 5,000 grams of marijuana.
His sentencing was scheduled for July 18.
Police in South Elgin, Illinois got a tip in December about a suspicious container shipped to a freight and delivery company in Illinois.
The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reported that officers seized the marijuana and an undisclosed amount of cash. Kwiatek was arrested later.
Kwiatek has no criminal history and is a U.S. Navy veteran. He could get up to 30 years in prison.
Assistant State's Attorney Kelly Orland said the drugs had an estimated street value of $470,000.
