Egypt Arrests Terror Suspect In Bay Area Ambassador's Benghazi Killing
CAIRO, Egypt (CBS SF) -- Egyptian authorities have reportedly arrested a terrorist cell leader believed linked to the attack in Benghazi, Libya that killed U.S. Ambassador and Bay Area native Christopher Stevens.
Both the Wall Street Journal and Reuters identified the man arrested as Mohamed Gamal Abu Ahmed, an Egyptian citizen.
Egyptian security and intelligence sources told Reuters that Abu Ahmed was believed to have planned the storming of the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, likely with al Qaeda backing.
The Sept. 11th attack resulted in the deaths of Stevens and three other Americans.
Abu Ahmed is also suspected of plotting attacks on other U.S. targets throughout the Middle East prior to his Cairo safe house being raided recently by authorities.
