Man arrested for DUI after fatally striking motorcyclist in East San Jose over the weekend
SAN JOSE – A driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after police said he struck and killed a motorcyclist in East San Jose over the weekend.
Officers were called to a major injury collision in the area of Jackson Avenue and Alexian Drive shortly after 1 a.m. on Sunday.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a 2003 Dodge pickup was heading northbound on Jackson Avenue when he attempted to make a left turn into an apartment complex. Police said he then struck a rider on a 2013 Kawasaki motorcycle heading southbound.
The rider was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced deceased. His name has not been released pending confirmation and notifying next of kin.
According to officers, the motorcyclist was the 42nd person killed on San Jose streets this year.
Police said the driver of the pickup remained at the scene. Following an on-scene DUI investigation, the driver was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.
The driver's name has not been released.
