East Palo Alto Considers Banning Medical Pot
PALO ALTO (KCBS) - East Palo Alto is concerned about an increase in crime as cannabis becomes more common in California, and the city is considering a blanket ban on medical marijuana.City leaders in East Palo Alto have the usual concerns about pot clubs: crime, traffic and odor. The city's chief attorney has recommended a temporary ban on dispensaries while they determine how to regulate them.KCBS' Matt Bigler Reports:
Dave Hodges, the operator of the San Jose Cannabis Buyers Collective, says if pot clubs are properly operated, like his, concerns about crime are largely unwarranted."We always have a guard on staff, plus we have cameras all over the place, but unfortunately that is something we all have to deal with in any type of business that deals in cash and valuable items," said Hodges.Three San Jose dispensaries have been robbed this year, each time in a take-over style robbery.The East Palo Alto City Council is scheduled to consider declaring a 10-month marijuana moratorium at a special meeting on October 26th.
