Midwest Winter Storm Means Delays for Bay Area Travelers
SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS/BCN)- The big blizzard that's blanketed the Midwest and East Coast continued to dump heavy snow Wednesday, causing havoc at Bay Area airports for flights headed east.
Officials at SFO said several airlines cancelled flights that were supposed to depart San Francisco first thing Wednesday morning.
KCBS' Tim Ryan Reports:
Spokesman Mike McCarron said United cancelled all flights to Chicago O'Hare for Wednesday, and Southwest cancelled all flights to Chicago's Midway airport until at least Wednesday afternoon.
"Chicago is going to be the most problematic one," said McCarron. "It's a major connection point to go across the country, and also Europe. There's a flight that goes from here to Chicago and on to Brussels, and that has been cancelled. Anything out of Chicago is just knocked out today. It's going to be very slow going."
There are also cancellations to Kansas City, New York, Washington D.C. and Dallas-Fort Worth, where the Super Bowl will be held on Sunday, among other places.
SFO reminded all travelers to contact their air carrier for the latest departure information.
