East Bay Thieves Stealing Holiday Packages From Doorsteps
CONCORD (KCBS) -- Concord Police are investigating at least four burglaries over the past two weeks, where the thieves have been staking out the front porches of their victims and grabbing packages from UPS and Fed Ex.
"UPS is extremely busy at this time of the year, with holiday packages being delivered to people's homes," said Concord Police Lieutenant Steve Dyer. "A lot of people are at work during the daytime and the packages are left unattended on the doorstep. And they are easy pickings."
KCBS' Mark Seelig Reports:
Elizabeth Rasberry is a spokeswoman for UPS and said there's not too much her drivers can do about this particular situation. It's really up to the recipients to take action.
"Talk with your neighbors. If your neighbor is available to get the package while you're at work, that's an option," she said.
Another option is having packages delivered to your place of work or your local UPS store.
Rasberry urges victims to call police right away, then file a complaint with their local UPS representative.
