East Bay Food Bank Reminds Donors Hunger Is Not Seasonal
MARTINEZ (KCBS) - The end of the holidays doesn't change a thing for people in need, and the lines at the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano County prove it, said executive director Larry Sly.
"Our need is by about a third of what it was two years ago," he said.
KCBS' Dave Padilla Reports:
Sly said that among the 130,000 served by the food bank each month there are now people who just a year ago enjoyed six-figure incomes but now can't find work.
"People keep getting hungry even though it's not the holiday season anymore, and so we really need the continuing help that people in the community provide."
Calpine Corporation recently donated $10,000 to the organization, a sum Sly estimates will pay for about 20,000 meals.
