Earthquakes' Wondolowski Named To MLS Best XI
SAN JOSE (CBS / AP) -- The San Jose Earthquakes' Chris Wondolowski was named to Major League Soccer's Best XI all-star team Tuesday for his record-breaking season that ended last weekend when San Jose lost 1-0 to the Colorado Rapids in the playoff semifinals.
Wondolowski, 27, one of three finalists for the MVP award scheduled to be announced Wednesday, led the league with 18 regular-season goals.
He also scored the goal to eliminate the favored New York Red Bulls in the playoffs' first round.
The Danville native had nine-game winning goals to equal an all-time MLS record for a single season.
"I am truly grateful to be named to the Best XI," Wondolowski said. "It's a great honor and I want to thank my teammates and fans because without them this wouldn't have been possible. The team had a great season and we are looking forward to building on that next year."
