Earthquakes' Wondolowski Named MLS Player Of The Week

SAN JOSE (AP) - The San Jose Earthquakes' Chris Wondolowski won Major League Soccer's player of the week award, his second such honor in three weeks, after scoring two goals to lead San Jose to a playoff-clinching 2-0 victory over D.C. United this past weekend.

With 14 goals, Wondolowski – a league MVP candidate and Danville native - trails Edson Buddle of the Los Angeles Galaxy by two in the race for the league's leading goal scorer.

Wondolowski scored his 13th and 14th goals against United on Saturday to move within one of the club's single-season goal scoring record. He hammered Tim Ward's bouncing cross past goalkeeper Troy Perkins moments before halftime, then reached Perkins' errant punch and tucked a shot into an open net in the 55th minute.
