Earthquakes Return To MLS Playoffs After 2-0 Victory

SAN JOSE (AP) - The San Jose Earthquakes have clinched the first playoff appearance since their return to Major League Soccer in 2008.

Playoff tickets for the first leg of the Conference Semifinals will go on sale Tuesday at 10 a.m. Fans can purchase tickets through www.SJEarthquakes.com online or by calling 1-800-225-2277.

Chris Wondolowski, a Danville native, scored twice as the Earthquakes knocked off D.C. United Saturday night 2-0 to lead them into the playoffs.

The Earthquakes, who reformed in 2008 after the original team became the Houston Dynamo in 2006, needed a win and a Kansas City loss to clinch a playoff spot. Seattle beat Kansas City 2-1 on Saturday.

Wondolowski scored his 13th and 14th goals against D.C. to move within one of the club's single-season goal scoring record. He hammered Tim Ward's bouncing cross past goalkeeper Troy Perkins moments before halftime, then reached Perkins' errant punch and tucked a shot into an open net in the 55th minute.

The 'Quakes returns home next weekend to host the Houston Dynamo at Buck Shaw Stadium in San Jose at 7 p.m.
