Earthquakes Hold 15th Overall Pick In MLS Draft
SAN JOSE (CBS / AP) -- The San Jose Earthquakes hold the 15th (first round) and 33rd (second round) overall picks in Major League Soccer's annual draft of amateur players to be be held next week, the team announced Thursday.
The league's Jan. 13 draft in Baltimore, Maryland is being held in conjunction with the National Soccer Coaches Association of America convention.
There will be three rounds of 18 picks. The expansion Vancouver Whitecaps and Portland Timbers will have the first two picks, followed by the eight teams that missed the playoffs and the four teams that lost in the first round.
Forward Omar Salgado, who has been on loan to Vancouver, could be the top pick. After playing for the Mexican Under-20 team last spring, he switched to the U.S. youth program this past summer.
