Earthquakes Earn 3-0 Win Over Colchester United
LONDON, England (CBS) -– A pair of trialists powered the San Jose Earthquakes past Colchester United 3-0 on Wednesday at Spurs Lodge for San Jose's second win in as many days.
Ellis McLoughlin scored a brace and Matt Luzunaris tacked one on midway through the second half. McLoughlin played 90 minutes in his first action since an ankle injury suffered during the Quakes preseason trip to Ventura while Luzunaris saw 45 minutes of action after subbing on at the half.
The Quakes had several chances early on, but it was McLoughlin who finally broke the stalemate with a blast from 25 yards out. Playing as a lone striker atop a 4-5-1, McLoughlin would head home his brace in the second half thanks to service from Steven Beitashour on the left.
McLoughlin wasn't done, feeding the pass that sprung Luzunaris for San Jose's third goal of the day. Luzunaris collected and finished from the middle of the area.
Andrew Weber and David Bingham split goalkeeper duties for the clean sheet. Weber played the first half and Bingham the second.
Next up for the Quakes is a trip to Leicester City on Thursday for the final exhibition of their 10-day trip to England.
