Earthquakes Defender Justin Morrow Named To U.S. National Team
SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -– San Jose Earthquakes defender Justin Morrow has been called up to the United States National Team training camp ahead of two key World Cup qualifying matches. Morrow has joined his teammates in Denver, Colo., the Earthquakes announced Monday.
The U.S. hosts Costa Rica on Friday, March 22 and then hits the road to face Mexico on Tuesday, March 26. The U.S. lost its first match of the Hexagonal 2-1 to Honduras.
Morrow, 25, returns to the national team for the second time in his career, following a call-up to the January camp in Southern California. The Ohio native made his first appearance for the U.S. in a 0-0 draw against Canada on Jan. 29, starting and playing 90 minutes.
He is coming off a big game over the weekend, as he scored his first goal of the season to help San Jose grab a 1-1 tie on the road against the Columbus Crew. Morrow has started and played 90 minutes in all three games for San Jose this year after enjoying his best season as a professional in 2012. He scored one goal and had four assists in 33 starts, each career bests last season and also started in the 2012 MLS All-Star Game.
