Earthquakes' Convey Named MLS Comeback Player
NEW YORK (AP) -- Former United States midfielder Bobby Convey is the MLS Comeback Player of the Year.
Real Salt Lake forward Alvaro Saborio is Major League Soccer's top newcomer, scoring 12 goals and setting up four more for the defending MLS Cup champions.
Saborio played for Saprissa in Costa Rica and European clubs FC Sion and Bristol City. He's also a mainstay of the Costa Rica national team.
Convey led the San Jose Earthquakes with 10 assists this season and helped them hold opponents to 33 goals in 30 league games this season from his left midfield spot.
Convey played in his third MLS All-Star game this season after appearances in 2001 and 2004.
